Net Thathuvam:
"என்னதான் நீங்க செண்டிமெண்ட் பார்த்தாலும், கப்பல் கெளம்பறதுக்கு முன்னாடி எலுமிச்சம் பழம் எல்லாம் வைக்க முடியாது... சங்கு ஊதிவிட்டுதான் கெளம்பனும்..."

Saamiyars Exposed

In tamilnadu, every now and then, there is a news about a saamiyar caught in a scandal..But then, those were local saamiyars (like the madipaakam saamiyar)..of course the greatest scandal would be the arrest of jeyandra sankarachaariyar [Now, the case is nowhere - that's another story by itself]..but yesterday, Nithyananda swaamigal - a bigger league spiritual guru was caught on 'A' -rated video and Sun TV went all out with the expose [My view: SUN TV shouldn't have streamed the video without camouflaging the explicit content...quite a shocker to watch it in living room TV]. Another set of big time 'spiritual gurus' - Kalki Bhagvan and his wife Amma Bhagvan's fraud is the subject of discussion in an Andhra TV.

I just wish, the people who flock to these 'spiritual gurus' pause for a minute and reflect on these developments..

Should wait and watch the next move...

Houses get brighter

Nowadays, there is a trend in Chennai, to paint houses in fluorescent colors esp. in yellows and oranges. Why would people who painstakingly build houses, paint it so garishly. It seems they are vaastu colours :-(

“Om lingalingalinalinga, kilikili….”

Missed the pleasure of viewing this program on TV..Anyways..more programs of this kind is the need for the hour. With 'poli' samayars & ammas mushrooming at the same pace as new IT companies on old mahabalipuram old, it is high time people come face to face with truth.
On 3 March 2008, in a popular TV show, Sanal Edamaruku, the president of Rationalist International, challenged India’s most “powerful” tantrik (black magician) to demonstrate his powers on him. That was the beginning of an unprecedented experiment. After all his chanting of mantra (magic words) and ceremonies of tantra failed, the tantrik decided to kill Sanal Edamaruku with the “ultimate destruction ceremony” on live TV. Sanal Edamaruku agreed and sat in the altar of the black magic ritual. India TV observed skyrocketing viewership rates.

Everything started, when Uma Bharati (former chief minister of the state of Madhya Pradesh) accused her political opponents in a public statement of using tantrik powers to inflict damage upon her. In fact, within a few days, the unlucky lady had lost her favorite uncle, hit the door of her car against her head and found her legs covered with wounds and blisters.

India TV, one of India’s major Hindi channels with national outreach, invited Sanal Edamaruku for a discussion on “Tantrik power versus Science”. Pandit Surinder Sharma, who claims to be the tantrik of top politicians and is well known from his TV shows, represented the other side. During the discussion, the tantrik showed a small human shape of wheat flour dough, laid a thread around it like a noose and tightened it. He claimed that he was able to kill any person he wanted within three minutes by using black magic. Sanal challenged him to try and kill him.

Sins 2.0

Vatican is on the move...new sins list
The Catholic Church on Sunday updated the 1,500-year-old list of seven deadly
sins, publishing the new list in the Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano.
Now, the souls of drug-pushers, the obscenely rich, environmental polluters and
“manipulative” genetic scientists will go to Hell, unless they repent and seek
redemption.

Just in case you forgot what the original seven sins are : lust, gluttony, avarice, sloth, anger, envy and pride

Belief in god - 1.9 Million pound research

IBN Live
A research team at the University of Oxford will be shelling out 1.9 million pounds to find out the reason behind why people believe in God. The Oxford academics have been given a grant to try to discover whether belief in a deity is a matter of nature or nurture. The team said that they would not examine the question of whether God exists but will look at evidence in an effort to prove whether belief in God bestowed an evolutionary advantage to mankind.
'm waiting for the result!

Name Change

We can expect more from Paghutharivu Paasarai (would roughly translate to rationalist group)..esp after the saibaba-ring episode at Karunanidhi's house.

An article in Kumudam reporter exposes the so- called followers of periyar - Paeyarai maatriya periyar seedarkal. Central MinisterT.R. Balu has now become T.R.Baalu and State Minister Arcot. Veerasamy has become Veeraswamy. Name change for numerological belief!

oh..my god!

My eyes really popped out..reading this..

The central government today told the Supreme Court that there was no historical evidence to establish the existence of Lord Rama or the other characters in Ramayana. In an affidavit filed before the apex court, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) rejected the claim of the existence of the Ramsethu bridge in the area where the project was under construction.

All this is happening in a country which witnessed riots & killings after Ayodhya's Babri Masjid demolition in the name of rama's birthplace. This affidavit requires great amount of guts...I thought, they would just submit a report saying there is no man-made structure under the sea and be controversy free. But issuing a statement like this..A round of applause..please.. to the brave souls who went ahead spoke the truth. [popular votebank will defintely get angry over this..I'm sure the govt will now try to balance the theist & the pious lot! by issuing appeasing statements....]

This is really going to be debated like never before..Already the BJP has called it sheer blasphemy. "It's an insult to Hindu faith. We also wonder why Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi have been going for the Dussehra festival if their government does not believe in Lord Rama's existence,"

I'm starting to enjoy this ;-))

god-names

A never ending source of god-names: Try looking at the windshield of the vehicles in TamilNadu (not sure if this is the case across India)..It really amazes me that we have soooooo many gods looking after us! - popular ones would be popular gods - Murugan Thunai [murugan is my protector/supporter], there are these scores of local gods - they come with the location too..kottaipuram bhagavathi thunai , Senkaadu Ellaiamman thunai etc., ..As I said, the list is endless..

But today, it was a refreshing change to see a car that had 'En Thai Thunai' meaning - My Mother is my protector. Hope the gods don't get angry!!!!

Faith???

5 years ago in a magazine cover. The devotees are a blessed lot, if the lady spits milk on them. Yuck!
