Rajini Rocks

Three hours just flew by. The lethal combo of Shankar & Rajini has delivered. It is more of a vintage Rajini film...shankar has done his bit to have things scale up to Rajini's persona. If you know, what to expect of a Rajini's movie, you will not be disappointed. But it is high time, Shankar takes on some other genre.

The first half belongs to vivek (fresh lease of life for him). The second half has Rajini in full form. Rajini simply pumps adrenaline as Motta Boss. I particularly appreciate the fact that the super star doesn't carry a super-ego - he is at ease when he talks abt kamal's colour, brilliant as vasantha maaligai - mayakam enna Shivaji Ganeshan and also when he imitates Vadivelu - enna vachu comedy onnum pannale-ye? Hmm..Was somebody saying Rajini is a Grand Father? He looked damn younger and set the screen on fire. You have to see it to believe it.

Shriya is at her best in the songs. Suman , the villain scores ..it is quite difficult to emote with your coolers on. And, the movie is a technical wizardry. K.V. Anand's camera, A.R.Rahman's pulsating songs, Thotta Tharani's sets are simply mind boggling. Special congrats to Manish Malhotra for his costumes. I just wish ..the fights were trimmed down.

Over all ..Paisa Vasool;-))

Bride's father

Excellent potrayal of a bride's father's feelings. This is basically from the folk song collection on Kamat's potpourri website. The irony is, even now the situation has not changed much.
Can't describe the agony
Can't describe the hardships
of the bride's daddy.

Visited every home of fellow caste [1]
and distributed the horoscope
His shoes are worn out by wandering pillar to post
to find a suitable match
His bank account is dwindling fast
to find a suitable match
for his girl

Meanwhile ticking away is bride's biological clock
worried is the bride's sister [2] and rest of the flock
All the powerful Gods are offered a bribe
in prayer for a suitable groom for the bride

Hurray, there's a match of the horoscope
Even though it means settling for less.

Accompanied by four men, he went to negotiate.
News is that groom's friend doesn't like the girl apparently
The groom's father will decide after hearing about the dowry
Grapevine has that the groom's mom is keen
Groom's sister is sitting on the fence

It's time to spend the money for the wedding
Grooms family wants lavish spending
Chiroti [3] for the friends
sarees [4] for thirty relatives

It's a time to bear the humiliation
of washing the in-law's feet
of bearing insults
of putting on a courteous mask and pleasing the groom's side
of waiting of approval which will never come

Raising the girl for eighteen years with all the skills to be a good housewife
and a good mother
is not enough.
Worrying if she will be cared or loved after marriage
is not enough.

By the time the girl is married,
have no words to describe the agony
Can't describe the hardships
of the bride's daddy.
Lord is his only hope.
Frustration is his only friend.

Nature's ways

Hmm..I had this weird stuff, today morning..it is a kind of litchi fruit. Dunno its name..tastes OK..

After making it to the top headlines for the past one week, BCCI decided to offer Graham Ford , the Indian Cricket coach job. But now, there is another twist. Graham Ford has declined the offer.

Battle of Clay

Rafael Nadal has once again proved himself. He bet Roger Federer in a thrilling four setter to claim the French Open title..third time in a row.

BBC Sports has a nice analysis on how Nadal bet Federer on clay.

Mylapore Karpagambal Mess

This place just stands still in time...It must be an envy for all the big time AD guys..not a penny spent for promotion, yet the Mylapore experience is deemed complete with a visit to Karpagambal mess.

Just today, had the pleasure of Degree Coffee (whatz a degree in coffee?) & hot hot idly sambar. But my biggest grouse is that the hotel can definitely make some arrangements for cleanliness. A first timer will get a heart attack seeing the pathetic way in which it is maintained. The owners are sure raking in money...wish they could spend something on creating a better ambiance.

Mylai Karpagambal mess is bang opposite to Bharathiya Vidya bhavan near Kapaleeshwarar temple.

Tintin - Movie in the making

Can you imagine that 23 of Tintin's adventures were written between 1929 to 1976!!. The author Hergé died midway thro the 24th book. And he had left a will that virtually banned any new illustrated adventures after his death.

But the good news is that Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson would be making three existing Tintin stories as movies. Times Online gives an inside view of whatz cooking up. Wonder which three??

Small Trivia: Tintin creator's original name is Georges Remi. Hergé is the French pronunciation of "R.G.", the reverse of his initials.

Helmet Compulsory

From today onwards Helmet wearing has been made compulsory in chennai (all of tamilnadu -later date?) for two-wheeler riders as well as pillion riders. The helmet shops had a roaring business all through the night.

Guess the traffic police will also have a roaring business - 100Rs. fine if you are not wearing a helmet.
