Most productive debate - TN State Assembly

With umpteen number of people issues screaming for Government's attention and action, the MLAs & Ministers found Shriya's & Namitha's dressing sense dangerous enough to warrant a debate in the state assembly.

With PMK taking a hardliner stand on this issue, wanted the government to intervene & save the 'Tamil Culture'. The DMK discussed in 'length' on where all the government could not pass the regulations. Wonder what the next scene would be?

This just adds to the list of all shameful incidents & speeches at the Assembly.

Dear Sugan,
What would be the standard of decent dressing be at public functions;what would be the protocol dressing at functions attended by Prime minister or Chief ministers.Do you accept Tamil Nadu has a culture of its own, with regard to its dressing.Do you wish to see India dressed like the westerners do.Do you wish to ape the west.Do you wish for a uniform dressed society in the whole world.Does it not feel good and wonderful to see so many cultures in the world like colours of a rainbow.imagine the rainbow in single colour. If PMK does not speak of culture, till when do we wait

Continued.....
If PMK or Shiva Sena does not do moral policing till how long do we wait for God to descend in the form of Periyar, Gandhi,Buddha to teach us morals.Do we need extraordinary humans like the above said to lead us and to guide us in living in the present. Why not lead simple decent lives like those great men and women, caring for the moral, mental, social well being of society and future generations?By changing to western civilization what are we leaving our generations to come.....i hate to imagine the future materialistic unsympathetic world, the world is heading towards....

There are places where we are supposed to go decently dressed. No one has the rights to command rules on dressing at private functions,as far as it is totally private.Who bothers on what Shriya or Namitha wear or don't wear on the Silver Screeen,or at Film functions.Comments are raised only when dressing vulgarly glamorous, considered indecent, at public functions.FREEDOM ENDS WHERE OTHERS FREEDOM BEGINS.Just because we have the right to doing any thing in India,it doesn't mean that we can walk semi naked in public.

If dressing semi naked at public functions is not shameful ,as you say why should discussing about indecent dressing be shameful. Why not people who dress disgracefully be averse to discuss such things in public. Why not tolerate healthy discussions, just like the said healthy revealing dressing sense.Dressing in such a way as to reveal, has not been in our culture for the recent past, from the time British came to India.Have you read about Victorian prudence, brought to us by the British.Have you read of the history of females wearing unrevealing upper garments only after the British entered India. It may take time for us to go back to our glorious past of dressing semi naked or still behind to Early man like dressing....Is this all Women's freedom and liberation....

I am sorry Sugan for being harsh in my above comments....I am saddened by the way television programs and magazine portray women.I am 39 years old now,and I am embarresed to watch most movies, with my 9 year old daughter, which show only violence by Heroes against some dada or other & half clad heroines dancing indecently. It was only few special people like Silk Smitha etc. who use to dance item nos. in yesteryears..Nowadays we find all heroines competing to reveal.....Leave alone the good ones like kanda naal muthal, autograph, thavamai thavamirundhu, mozhi and the likes.

Nalliyakkodan..I dont agree with your views...culture is not so narrow to be defined with a dress..And I for that matter, didn't find that dress indecent.

Hi nalliyakkodan,

Lets first practice and then preach. First ask the male community to wear proper dhoties. Not pants. First PMK should tell Anbumani Ramadoss to do this. Then tell his cadres not to wear dhoties that do not show their thighs. Isnt it our culture.
